Planning for the 2025 - 2026 School Year

Planning for the next school year begins in the spring when we receive our budget from CBE.  The number of students enrolled determines the number of teachers and support staff we can have.  Please help us to plan by keeping us informed.  If your child will not be coming back to Janet Johnstone in September 2025, please notify the school office at JanetJohnstone@cbe.ab.ca or 403-777-8670.

In May and June, teachers and administration begin creating classes for next year.  We approach this important task carefully and strive to place each child in a class that will foster their academic and social-emotional growth.  Teachers work together to create balanced classes that address the following components:

·       Academic abilities

·       Social-emotional profiles

·       English as an Additional Language learners

·       Students with special needs

·       Learning style

·       Gender

·       Independence and work habits

·       Dynamics between students

Teachers begin creating class lists in June but the classes are not finalized until just before the first day of school.  Changes in staff and students moving into or out of our school can require us to adjust the number of classes for a particular grade or teachers’ assignments.  Initial plans will be shared at May and June School Council meetings.

Parent/guardian input is considered.  However, the final decisions rest with the JJ team of teachers and administration.  The deadline for requests is May 30, 2025.  Requests must be made in writing to the principal.  Please do not give your requests to your child’s teacher.  Please email Mrs. Schmitt at kaschmitt@cbe.ab.ca if you have a request for your child for next year and explain the educational reasons for your request.
