Each year, our school prepares a School Development Plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial assessment results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan, identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.
Last Year's School Development Plan
For the 2024 - 2025 school year, we focused on using high-impact teaching strategies to improve student achievement in Literacy (specifically Writing) and Mathematics, while increasing student engagement and well-being.
- Explicitly teaching vocabulary across subject areas.
- Providing oral language-rich literacy and math environments.
- Explicitly teaching social-emotional competencies in the classroom and the whole-school.
Teachers' intentional instruction positively impacted student academic achievement and well-being and we have many celebrations to share with our school community, including:
- Students’ achievement in writing improved when comparing January to June 2025 report cards for grade 1, 3 and 4 students in the Regular program and grade 1 and 2 in the French Immersion program.
- Students’ achievement in number and patterns in mathematics improved when comparing January and June report cards for Kindergarten and grade 1 students in the Regular program and Kindergarten, grade 1, 2 and 3 students in the French Immersion program.
- Improved feelings of safety, belonging and positive friendships of grade 4 students on the OurSCHOOL Survey.
- Increased feelings of engagement in Language Arts for grade 4 students on the Alberta Education Assurance Measure survey.

This Year's School Development Plan
We used our results from last year's School Development Plan, parent feedback from School Council meetings and through a survey in the spring and teacher feedback to create this year's plan.
Our goals for the 2025 - 2026 school year are to continue to improve students' achievement in Writing and Mathematics while while increasing students' resilience (ability to cope when things are hard) by:
- Using consistent, specific and timely formative assessment practices to move student learning forward.
- Using success criteria to support students with self-assessments in writing and mathematics.
- Using mentor texts as explicit instruction of Social Emotional Learning competencies, to model writing and mathematical concepts.

Building Resiliency with the Power of Yet!
We are using the mentor texts The Magical Yet and Tu y arriveras by Angela DiTerlizzi to help us set a whole-school focus on developing resilience in learning and well-being at school. Teachers will revisit these texts throughout the school year and support students to learn strategies to attempt challenging tasks with a growth mindset.
