Whole School Assemblies

Thank you to the family members that joined us for our assembly this Friday morning. A big part of our school culture at Janet Johnstone School is shared experiences. As often as possible, we gather together in the gym for an assembly. Student leaders present, we sing together and learn about important topics as a whole school. This year our school-wide focus is on "The Power of Yet" and learning to have a growth mindset. In our assembly this week we practiced saying "I can't do this... yet!" and saying to ourselves "I can do it!". Please watch the Week at a Glance for news about other sharing assemblies in December.

Readers and Leaders

Our grade 3 classes had their first visit from presenters from the Calgary Public Library and Calgary Police Service. The enjoyed books together and got to borrow library books. Our next visit will take place at the Shawnessy Library in December!

Dress for the Weather!

The warm weather we have enjoyed this fall is coming to an end. We would like to remind our families that we go outside at least once a day if the weather is warmer than -20C with the wind-chill. Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather with mittens, a hat, warm jacket, snow pants and winter boots. All students need to have indoor running shoes that stay at school as we will be asking them to take their outdoor shoes and boots off when they enter the school.

The Lost and Found is Very Full!

We have a huge amount of coats, shoes, mittens, water bottles and more in our lost and found! We will try to return items that are labelled with students' names. Teachers will walk their students by the lost and found next week to hopefully some items will find their items. Parents and guardians will be able to take a look during Student Learning Conferences on November 27 or 28. At the end of each month, all of the remaining items will be donated to a charity.
