There are many exciting things coming up at Janet Johnstone School in November and December! Here are a few of them:

Readers and Leaders Program

We are excited that our grade 3 classes have been selected to participate in the Readers and Leaders program. This is a partnership with the Calgary Public Library and first responders. Guest speakers from the Calgary Public Library and Calgary Police Service and 911 operators will visit the school and promote a love of reading many times over the school year and the grade 3 students will go on a field trip to the Shawnessy Library in December.

Visiting Senior Citizens

The grade 2 classes have partnered up with a nearby senior citizen care centre. They will take walking field trips to spend time with the seniors.

Scholastic Book Fair

Mrs. Knox and parent volunteers are organizing a book fair in our library the week of November 24. This is a great opportunity for students to purchase books and raise funds for our school! Students will be able to preview the books with their teacher and shop during school or families can shop during Conferences. We will share the schedule soon.

Green Fools Circus Residency

Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of Janet Johnstone School Association (FJJSA), all students from kindergarten to grade 4 will participate in a circus residency from December 1 to 17! We will welcome 2 circus instructors that will teach a variety of skills and the power of having a positive attitude when you try new things! We will have sharing assemblies on Wednesday, December 17 in the morning and afternoon. We will share the schedule soon.
