Fun in the Snow
Students have been having a great time playing in the snow this week. Thank you, caregivers, for making sure that your child is dressed for the weather with boots, snow pants, a warm coat, hat and waterproof mitts or gloves. We go outside to play every day until it is colder than -20C with the wind chill.
Frosty Fun @ Lunch!
Starting on Monday, November 25 the students will be able to participate in outdoor activities (centres) during their lunch recess. Some of the centres will be focused on building friendships and wellbeing while creating colourful snow art. Other centres will develop further students’ physical and self-regulation skills.
Traffic Safety and Attendance
Getting our students to school safely is so important. Please continue to help your children to cross at the crosswalk and to watch the drivers when they are crossing. When it is snowy, it is harder for drivers to stop so we need to be even more careful.
Reminder: In front of the school the city bus zone is a no parking zone. If you are using the "Hug and Go" area, please do not leave your vehicle there. Just drop off and make room for the next parent.
We make an effort to do attendance right away at 8:00AM so we can make sure that students are safe inside the school. If your child arrives when the bell is ringing and they enter a door that is not near their classroom, staff will ask them to check in at the office and they will be marked late. This is to make sure that they are accounted for. Please call the office if you have any questions about your child's attendance.
*On very snowy days, we may ask teachers to hold their attendance for a few minutes to get students to their classrooms as quickly as possible.
Student Learning Conferences
We are excited to welcome our families to our first formal conferences on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29. Conference Manager opens on Saturday, November 26 at 8:00AM with your MyCBE/PowerSchool account. Conferences provide time and space for families to have one-on-one conversations with teachers specific to their child’s progress and achievement. Teachers will share student work and they will share their next steps for learning for your child. Please bring your child to their conference so they can show you what they are proud of and be part of the conversation about their learning!
Travel Survey
We are partnering with EverActive Schools for a safe travel project. Students in Mme Dianna and Mme Taylor's classes are working with the facilitator to find ways to make students' travel to school more active and safe! Please take a moment to complete this short survey to help them with their project.
Crochet Club Request:
Mme. Taylor is seeking donations of yarn and crochet hooks to support her student Crochet Club. Any type of yarn is appreciated, but 4-weight (worsted weight) yarn is preferred. Donations of 5mm crochet hooks would also be especially helpful. Items can be dropped off in Room 18 to Mme. Taylor or at the office, clearly labelled for Mme. Taylor. Thank you for supporting our students!
