Community Walks
We are fortunate to have many natural areas and interesting places within walking distance from our school. Teachers are taking advantage of the warm weather and are planning outdoor learning on schoolgrounds and walking field trips. Please see information about walking field trips here: Walking Field Trips
Student Code of Conduct
At the beginning of the school year, teachers set routines and expectations for their classes in order to foster a safe learning environment. Teachers create classroom expectations and review CBE's Student Friendly Code of Conduct. Throughout the year, school staff support students in interacting with others and solving problems. Please take a moment to review the information about CBE's Progressive Discipline Policy and Student Friendly Code of Conduct talk about positive behaviour with your child: Code of Conduct
Terry Fox Run Update
On Friday, September 26, Janet Johnstone School will proudly take part in our annual Terry Fox Run. Students and staff from Kindergarten to Grade 4 will walk or run a course around the school grounds in honour of Terry Fox and help raise money for cancer research.
Families are welcome to join us for this meaningful event!
- The Kick-Off Assembly will begin at 8:05 AM in the school gym.
 - Students will participate in a 20-minute walk/run around the designated route.
 - After the run, classes will gather with their teachers for a closing announcement and cheer near the hill by the compound.

Kindergarten Details:
- PM Kindergarten students will participate in the run with the rest of the school.
 - AM Kindergarten students will hold their Terry Fox Run on a different day with their teachers.

Donations:
We will be collecting donations for the Terry Fox Foundation from September 15–26. Students are encouraged to bring a “TOONIES FOR TERRY” or any donation amount of your choosing. Our school-wide goal is to raise $1,000! If we reach this goal, we will celebrate with a schoolwide pajama day.
Thank you for supporting this important cause!
Message from School Council Chair
Hello JJ Families
Thank you to all that attended our first school council meeting of the year both in person and online. It was great to see familiar faces and names and also new ones.
During our meeting, I presented vacant positions for both the Janet Johnstone School Council and Friends of Janet Johnstone School Association. I cannot express how important it is to have these positions filled to run a successful Council. Besides our biggest fundraiser the casino, we as Parent Council plan other fundraising initiatives for the school as well. With no Council there is no fundraising. If there is no fundraising, we are not able to purchase gym and music equipment, computer equipment to name a few and the biggest purchase, a new playground.
The following are the positions that we need filled:
Vice Chair/Vice President (JJSC and FJJSA)
Volunteer Coordinator (JJSC)
Directors (2 Positions for FJJSA)
Please email me at jjsc.fjjsa@gmail.com if you would like to help us fill these positions.
Thank you,
Lyanne Vlodarchyk
Chair/President for JJSC and FJJSA
