Communication Between Home and School

How do families find out what's happening at school?

Each Sunday, parents/guardians will receive an email from Mrs. Schmitt, the principal, with a link to a news story on our school website full of important information and upcoming events.  You can also refer to our website calendar for important dates.

Teachers will share important messages with families through School Messenger emails and their Google Classroom (parents/guardians will receive this information later this month).

How do families communicate with the school?

Please email or call the school office if you would like to report your child late or absent or if your pick up arrangements have changed. You can also call the school office if you need help with yourMyCBEaccount.

Please email your child's teacher if you have information to share or questions. Please note that teachers cannot take phone calls or respond to emails during the school day. Please call the office if you need a message given to your child.

Traffic Safety

Every morning, it is very busy around our school with buses, families walking and vehicles. Safety is a shared responsibility. Please review the following safe practices:

Traffic Sign Collage

  • Drop your child off during Soft Start (between 7:50 and 8:00AM) so there is less congestion around the school.
  • Follow the rules on the street signs around the school.
  • Use the Hug and Go areas in front of the school and near the mailbox on Shannon Close.
  • Leave the bus zones open for school buses and City Transit buses.
  • Cross at the crosswalk and do not park too close to the crosswalks.
  • Do not park in the staff parking lot, block the driveway or drive into it to drop off or pick up.
  • Do not walk through the parking lot.
  • Park a block away from the school and walk.
  • Keep dogs and other pets off of schoolgrounds.

Picking Children Up After School

Please remember that there is no supervision for children after school hours. Please pick your children up on time. Children who are not picked up on time from their regular doors will be brought to the office.

Lunch Supervision

Registration for lunch supervision will be available through MyCBE. All students in Grades 1- 4 staying at school during the daily lunch break must be registered and pay the annual fee (various payment options available).

Please Join Us at our School Council Meeting

Hello Janet Johnstone families,

The new school year has begun and we know it is a busy time for all getting back into the routine and also getting the kiddos back into a daily school routine.  I would like to invite parents/guardians to our Janet Johnstone School Council (JJSC) meeting happening Tuesday September 9th at 6:30pm.  All are welcome to join either in person or online.  It is a great way to meet other parents, know what is happening within the school and be apart of the council itself as we do have vacant positions available this year.  I hope to see you there!!!  Just a reminder that we do not have a babysitter during the meeting so please feel free to still attend online.

Thank you all,

Lyanne Vlodarchyk

Chair/President for JJSC and FJJSA
