Carnaval D'Hiver Feb 5-9

Carnaval D’Hhiver is almost here- February 5-9!

Each year, Janet Johnstone School acknowledges a week of Carnaval D’Hiver to support and encourage French Canadian culture.  Each day, there are multiple activities happening- the vibe in the school is electric during Carnaval!   Get ready for a fun filled and educational week learning about French Canadian culture for this winter celebration!

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of French Immersion within CBE so our Carnaval will be bigger and better! Please watch your emails and Google Classrooms for more information coming next week.

ICE PALACE/ PALAIS DE GLACE

A wonderful ice palace was built for the first time in 1955 for Quebec City’s Carnival in honour of its mascot, Bonhomme. Our annual tradition of building the ICE PALACE will take place on Monday, February 5 and Tuesday, February 6.

For this activity to be successful, we also need everyone’s help. Each student in the school is asked to please bring an ice block (or many ice blocks), which will become an important piece of the ice palace.

HOW TO MAKE THE ICE BLOCK:

  • please fill a 2L rectangular Milk carton with water up to the fill line shown on the diagram in the attachment

Please do not use:

  • juice cartons
  • 1 L cartons
  • BIG milk jugs
  • Jugs of any size
  • irregular shaped containers.

NOTE: teachers will share with their classes what day to bring the ice blocks.  Please do not bring your ice blocks until it’s your child’s day to build on either Feb 5 or 6. Have fun making ice blocks togeth
