Ice and Snow

We had a wonderful first day of Carnaval D'Hiver!  Our Palais de Glace is coming together- please check it out at the front of the school!  Our students and volunteers worked hard on it today and we look forward to finishing it off tomorrow!

The fresh dump of snow was a welcome treat for Carnaval but it has also created some conditions on our field that we were not anticipating.  With all of the thawing and freezing that happened before the snowfall, a layer of ice is under the snow on our compound and field.  We can do something about the compound with putting forward a request for gravel and sand.  However, there's not much we can do about the field area.Today, several students took tumbles on the field when trying to do their regular recess activities, like soccer.  We had lots of sore knees, and a few bumps to the head (which is always concerning).

In order to keep our students as safe as possible, we need to postpone soccer at recess and lunch recess.  Students playing soccer (or any other running activity) on the ice under the snow was very dangerous today.  We will monitor the icy conditions over the coming days and made decisions as the weather warms up.

Thank you for understanding that our top priority is to keep your children safe at school.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Kivi directly.
