Relaxed entry and dismissal / Entrée relaxe / la sortie à la fin de la journée
Hello families/ Bonjour les familles,
The end of September is very near and Thanksgiving is around the corner! Now that we are settled into the school year, I have a few important reminders to share with you.
We are noticing that there have been many late students in the mornings, especially over the last week. Today, for example, over 10% of our students were late for school. As a mom, I understand the rush each morning. My own household is a bustling and busy place on school mornings.
We have relaxed entry every morning to help with student entry (7:50-8:00am). Parking a block away and walking or using the drop and go zone are good suggestions to help with some of the congestion. All students can use any door for entry- if you drop off at the front, your children can use the front door.
Providing students with 10 minutes to enter the building should alleviate the number of late arrivals each morning. When the school bell rings at 8:00am, instructional time begins. It’s very important that students are settled and ready for a day of learning. There are many schools that do not have relaxed entry- at Janet Johnstone, we believe that relaxed entry provides a positive transition for students each morning. Please take advantage of those 10 minutes.
Another reminder that end of day dismissal is at 2:32pm. It is expected that students are picked up promptly at dismissal. If your end of day pick up arrangement needs to change, please call the school no later than 2:20pm so we can relay the message to the student. Calling right at the bell does not give us enough time to inform your child. The office staff is unable to watch students after school, therefore it is important that pick up is prompt at 2:32.
Thank you for understanding and ongoing support,
Bobbi Kivi
