Family Groups

This Friday, we started a new community-building initiative at JJ. We call it Family Groups. Students have been placed in Family Groups with students from different grades and classes, which will give students opportunities to build relationships with other students and teachers. Each Friday morning, Family Groups will meet for 40 minutes to learn together Indigenous teachings related to the Medicine Wheel and Social Emotional skills. It is our hope that this approach will add to our school culture of connection and belonging.

Family Cultural Night

We hope that many families will sign up to be part of our Family Cultural Night on April 17! We would love to learn about what is important to our families and how they connect!

Here is the information about the special event:

We are looking forward to learning more about the families in our community!  This is an optional event so please do not feel that your family has to sign up.  We welcome all families to attend, even if you’re not hosting a booth.

Planning for Next Year

At this time of the school year, we are looking ahead to next year. Please help us make the best plans by keeping us informed of your family's plans. Please fill out this survey by April 11: 2025 - 2026 Survey

Kindergarten registration is ongoing. If your child is turning 5 by December 31, 2025, you can register here: Registration .

Gymnastics

This week, students will try new movements on the Canadian Climber and other equipment. All teachers are trained in teaching the gymnastics unit in a safe and developmental appropriate way. Please see this letter for more details: Letter

Please help your child to participate safely by:

▪ Wear clothing that allows freedom of movement (no special uniforms or leotards are required – sweatpants/jogging pants/leggings and a t-shirt work best).

▪ Tight fitting clothing is preferable instead of loose fitting or baggy clothing as they may get caught on equipment when climbing.

▪ All jewelry should be removed (please leave at home). This includes watches, rings, necklaces, dangling/hoop earrings etc.

▪ Students with long hair should have their hair tied back. Please provide hair elastics.

▪ Students will be actively moving, so please do not wear footed tights and no dresses or skirts.

DELF Language Assessments for French Immersion Grade 4 Students

The Diplôme d'études en langue française (DELF) are official language exams of the government of France. They are set and regulated by France Éducation International (FEI) and administered through local DELF centres worldwide. The Calgary Board of Education is an accredited DELF centre and organises DELF exam sittings for its students.

All grade 4 French Immersion students will participate in the A1 DELF exam this week. We would like to thank Mme Taylor, Mme Dianna and some amazing parent volunteers for their dedication in preparing the students for this important opportunity!
