Traffic Safety at Janet Johnstone

The safety of our students is so important. We have been working on ways to improve safety before and after school around the school and appreciate the feedback we have received from parents.

Our partnership with EverActive Schools is allowing us to work with the City of Calgary to suggest ideas that will make it safer for students. We will keep our families updated when we hear about projects from the City.

We had a great conversation with JJSC at our meeting last week and many ideas were discussed.

You may have noticed that a member of Calgary Police Service has been in front of the school before school this week. The Constable is reminding drivers that parking in the bus zone or handicapped zone is not allowed.

Please help us keep everyone safe by:

-using the Hug and Go to drop your child off and leave so others can use it

-crossing at the crosswalk with your child (not jaywalking in the middle of the intersection)

-not parking in no parking zones (bus zone, handicapped zone, across the driveway to the parking lot, in the parking lot)

-not making a u-turn in the school zone

Carnaval Update

We will celebrate "carnaval d'hiver" (Winter Carnival) the week of February 3. The week will be full of school spirit activities, outdoor fun and learning about French Canadian culture.

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we will be making our "palais de glace" (Ice Palace). All students are asked to bring at least 1 ice block for the palace. Please follow the specific instructions on this document: Ice Blocks

If you are able to volunteer to help with the Ice Palace on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, please email Mme Lina at lidilov@cbe.ab.ca .

Yearbook Contest

We are accepting student entries for our yearbook cover contest. The deadline is January 30. Entries must show what is important about our school.
