World Teachers Day:

October 5 is World Teachers Day. At Janet Johnstone we recognize that all staff members contribute to our students' learning and positive experiences at school. Thank you JJ staff for all you do for our school community!

Staffing Update:

We are pleased to share that Ms. Melissa Rowbotham is moving into the position of Resource Learning Leader. She will also be teaching the PM English Kindergarten Class beginning Monday, October 7.

Welcome Ms. Tara McDonald! Ms. McDonald will be joining the grade 2 English team as the teacher for Room 6.

Student safety and behaviour is a shared responsibility. Please refer to our Code of Conduct and the linked documents from CBE. Teachers have discussions about school expectations and how to solve problems on an ongoing basis using the Student Friendly Code of Conduct and our school-wide expectations.

At Janet Johnstone, we are fortunate to have many natural areas and other locations within walking distance of the school. Please see the information about walking field trips: Walking Trips

Message from JJ School Council About the Halloween Dance:

Subject: Dance Committee Volunteers NEEDED!

Hi Janet Johnstone Parents,

FJJSA is getting ready to plan this year’s Halloween dance, which is one of the biggest fundraisers for the school. The funds raised from this event help provide our students with additional equipment, special experiences like Trickster Theatre, and access to new technology like the 3D printer.

However, we need your help to make this event happen. We are looking for volunteers to fill key positions on the dance committee.  No one will need to take on the responsibility of managing the whole event, just your respective area as there is already a dance coordinator.

Here are the roles we need to fill:

1. Concession Stand: This role involves selling snacks and beverages during the dance and overseeing volunteers. You’ll help ensure we have enough supplies and manage the sales throughout the event.

2. Cake Walk: The cake walk is always a big hit with the students! As a volunteer, you will organize the cakes, manage the game during the event, and oversee the prizes and volunteers.

3. Ticket Counter: We need volunteers to sell and distribute concession/cake walk tickets on the night of the dance. You will help manage ticket sales and be responsible for cash boxes. You MUST have your police clearance for this role.

4. Craft Room: The craft room is a fun space for students who want a break from the dance floor. You’ll assist with preparing craft activities, setting up supplies, and supervising students as they create their masterpieces.

5. Tear Down: Assist with cleaning up and removing decorations after the dance. This role is essential to ensure the school is returned to its original condition for the next day.

It’s important to note that without enough volunteers to fill these roles, there will be no Halloween dance this year. This fundraiser is crucial for supporting some of the extras that make Janet Johnstone special and we rely on parent support to make it a success.

If you can help, please let us know by sending an email to Torrie Gass as torrielynng@gmail.com.

As always, "we’re better together," and with your help, we can make the Halloween Dance a great one!
