Safety at School
Emergency Drills
Our first priority at school is your child's safety. In addition to fire drills and lockdown drills that were addressed in an email earlier this week, we also have different safety concerns: wildlife! Your children may have come home from school on Friday talking about a bobcat visiting our schoolyard. When we were told about the bobcat that was behind our school, we quickly brought the classes that were inside in and made an announcement for the whole school to stay inside. We monitored the situation outside, told out-of-school care staff to be aware and let the school know when we were sure that the bobcat had moved away.
Traffic Safety
This week, we noticed that some drivers did not stop for people who were crossing in the crosswalk. Please be aware of all vehicles when you are crossing the road and make sure that your children know to make eye contact with the driver before crossing.
Here is some important information about Traffic Safety at JJ: Traffic Safety and from the Alberta Government: Pedestrian Safety
Election Protocols
On Monday, September 14, Janet Johnstone School is a polling station for the provincial bi-election. Our school was selected by Elections Alberta.
We have put in safety protocols to ensure that our school can run safely while voters are in the school gym.
Doors:
Students will enter through their regular doors when they arrive at school. Polling starts at 9:00AM so the start of the day should go as normal. When it is close to the time of the polls opening, we will put a divider across the hall and monitor the doors in the gym so the voters cannot get around the school.
Outside Time:
Teachers will take their classes outside for gym class. Supervisors will watch for voters that are on the schoolgrounds and direct them to the front door.
Creations Childcare:
Creations will operate before and after school in classrooms. Parents, please follow your regular drop off and pick up routine.
