Thank You / Merci!

We would like to send some big thank yous to some JJ community members:

• Thank you to all members of JJSC, FJJSA and the Playground Committee for your commitment to our school.
• Thank you to all family members who attended our first JJSC meeting on Tuesday night. We are so glad that so many community members are interested in being involved in our school!
• Thank you to our first Healthy Hunger volunteers.
• Thank you to the teachers who organized an amazing Terry Fox Run and to the family members who came and joined us! There is still time to donate for cancer research through this link: Terry Fox and we are also still accepting "toonies for Terry"

Provincial Literacy and Numeracy Screeners

Beginning in the 2026/27 school year, schools are required to conduct literacy and numeracy screenings to all kindergarten to grade 5 children and students.

Literacy and numeracy are essential skills that develop in the critical early years of education. These foundational skills ensure success in later years of a student's education and in later life. Screening children’s and students’ learning in literacy and numeracy in their early years provides critical information to teachers, parents, and Alberta Education and Childcare to help children and students get additional support if they need it.

Kindergarten screenings occur only in the Winter, while screenings for all students in grades 1 to 3 occur in both the Fall and Winter, with a Spring screening required for students identified as requiring additional supports from the Winter screening. Students in grades 4 and 5 are required to be screened in the Fall with an additional re-screening in Spring for those who required additional supports.

School staff will share Literacy and numeracy screening results with parents following the screenings. Results from the literacy and numeracy screenings are intended to help teachers identify and address gaps in their kindergarten children’s and grades 1 to 5 students’ foundational understandings of literacy and numeracy.

Child & Youth Well-Being Family & Caregiver Series

Well-being is a precondition for student achievement. Student well-being supports learning and success. Students bring strengths, experiences, and capacities that can be nurtured through supportive relationships and inclusive learning environments. As students navigate challenges that are connected to mental health and well-being, we have an opportunity to strengthen belonging, build skills, and ensure access to responsive supports.

The CBE invites all parents and guardians to join us for a live online series focused on supporting child and youth well-being. Hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with experts from the Calgary community, this year's sessions will explore a range of timely topics. 

These sessions are designed to equip families with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today.

These sessions are​ free and provide information, resources, helplines, and services to support healthy child and youth development.
